Chardiet
Copper Horn Relic by Jose Chardiet

February 2011

Winter greetings! For most of our country, this has been a rather severe winter with lots of snow and lots of cold. What better way to cheer up than to view the latest colorful and exuberant creations by some of the world’s leading glass artists! I feel fortunate to represent the artists featured in this month’s message along with thirty or so others. I encourage you to click on any of the pieces along the left hand side of this letter to see more works by these artists or to go to my home page and click on All Gallery Artists. I hope you are all well and I look forward to staying in touch. As always, I am happy to hear from you with questions, comments or just to say hello.

Quote of the Month

“While creating each piece, I try to balance the challenges of hot glass with the sense of wonder and fun I felt the first time I gathered from the furnace.”

– Nancy Callan

Museum Exhibitions

Lino Tagliapietra,
“From Murano to Studio Glass, 1954-2011.”

Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti, Venice.
2-19-11 to 5-22-11, 2011.
This major exhibition of the maestro’s work includes works from all periods of his long and illustrious career. Several major installations are also featured. The Palazzo hosting this event is one of the most beautiful that I have seen in Venice. If your travel plans for the next few months include a visit to Italy be sure to include this show in your itinerary!

Dale Chihuly,
“Through the Looking Glass.”

The Museum of Fine Art, Boston, MA.
April 10-August 7, 2011.
Another major exhibition in one of the greatest art museums in the United States. Featured will be all of Chihuly’s major series as well as some outstanding installations. If you live in or visit the Northeast don’t miss this one!

Featured Works

Among the works featured on the left hand side of this newsletter are a beautiful Lino Tagliapietra piece from the Bilbao series, a brand new print by Chihuly (just released today!), an example of a wonderful new series by Jose Chardiet, an outstanding Stephen Powell piece, and great new works by Nancy Callan, Alex Bernstein and John Kiley. The piece by Preston Singleton, “Raven Steals the Moon,” is one of the last available pieces from this signature series which Preston has recently decided not to continue making.
