Note from Kenn Holsten
Greetings! Spring is a colorful time of year and I’ve chosen some very colorful pieces to feature in this month’s newsletter. I hope you enjoy them and I’d love to hear from you with any questions or comments!
Quote of the Month
“It is part of my culture, my brain, my blood.”
– Lino Tagliapietra
(referring to his work)
Featured Works
Saba by Lino Tagliapietra
This piece from Lino Tagliapietra’s "Saba" series is an elegant example of a rather classic form with extraordinary presence. The gradation of color is immensely satisfying and the overall feeling is at the same time moving and serene.
Red Basket by Preston Singletary
Many of you are most likely more accustomed to seeing Preston Singletary’s narrative pieces which often include one or more animal figures. I happen to love the simplicity of Preston’s "Basket" series. Unlike the organic forms of Chihuly’s series by the same name, these forms are very controlled. The contrast in colors and the surface treatment combine to create a very appealing esthetic.
Mars Orb by Nancy Callan
Here is a Callan piece whose title we immediately grasp. Unlike the red planet, however, this piece is translucent and includes other colors in addition to the red. Nancy’s "Orb" series is by far her simplest in terms of form and therefore allows the viewer’s eye to engage more fully with the lines and colors.
Chartreuse Persian Pair by Dale Chihuly
2013 Studio Edition
Of the four 2013 Chihuly Studio Editions, the Chartreuse Persian Pair is by far the most exotic in terms of both color and form. For a relatively small piece (11.5" wide), this one creates a very dramatic statement and could easily hold its own next to some of Chihuly’s much larger works.
Thanks for taking time to view this month’s newsletter. Enjoy the spring weather and stay well!
